oats-for-skin

Ya I know its Monday and I am late for #FRIDAYINGREDIENTTALK. Sorry, really sorry but my work was too busy, so much that I was working on weekends also :-/ . Anyway, let’s talk about one of the international super foods, OATS!

I have been eating Oats for breakfast since 2 years plus now, I am absolutely in love with the way my stomach feels, It is full yet, light. I had never thought of applying them on my face until last year. I was out of rice flour and I added powdered oats in one of my homemade masks, (I only used one logic, if its good to eat, it is safe to put on skin) I LOVED the results a lot! I googled about Oats and there were more than 10000 articles raving about the benefits. To ensure, that it was oats that did the magic, I used my breakfast on my face πŸ˜› (well of course without sugar) and my skin felt baby soft. Needless to say, there was no looking back πŸ™‚

By now I have mastered the benefits and uses of Oats in skin care. So here’s a little something on them!

What are Oats?

Oats (Avena Sativa) are originated from Scotland, and is their staple diet. Oatmeal is usually cooked in milk and makes a wonderful breakfast. They are basically grown for its seed, which are also known by the same name. While we humans consume it, it is usually used to feed livestock. Oats are milled, steamed, heated and cooled in a kiln, which brings out the flavour. They are then rolled, cut or ground to produce flakes, oatmeal or flour. They are filled with nutrients like Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Carbohydrate, Protein, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, Potassium etc.

Benefits of Oats on Skin

1. Skin Moisturizer:

Oats contains beta-glucan that forms a moisturizing layer on your skin. It penetrates into skin well and also helps our skin heal faster in case of any bruises or abrasion. Because of its moisturizing properties it is great for dry skin.

2. Anti-Aging:

Because they improve collagen deposition, it is great for aging skin.

3. Natural Cleanser:

They have the power to clean your skin from deep within, without leaving it dry. They contain saponins, that help in removing dirt and oil from within without irritating the skin. Because of its mild exfoliating granules, it can also help in getting rid of dead skin cells.

4. Skin Lightening:

Because of Niacin, they are widely used to lighten and re-texturize dark areas on your skin. Once of my BEST and most read recipes is really a must try! You can check it out here.

5. Treating Acne:

A proper cooked oatmeal works as a great treatment for acne. The soothing and calming benefits of this wonderful ingredient work wonders on skin and reduces inflammation and redness.

With so many benefits and nutrients, I have been bowled over by Oats! Not only I continue having this for my breakfast, it is now a constant ingredients in my skin care regimen.
