Hey everyone!

I have been trying to go all natural in terms of shampoos but have miserably failed! Sometimes a bad recipe or sometimes pure lazyness! Having known the dangerous and horrible things that commercial shampoos do to our hair has horrified me enough to get back up and start making my homemade shampoo once again! So after much research here are my 2 best recipes for a homemade Shampoo.

So let me first ask you a few questions… Are you suffering from hair fall? Are you facing problems with your hair in terms of hair thinning even if you are taking care of your hair? Dry Hair? Rough Hair? Well all of these are consequences of nothing but our commercial shampoos. Thanks to the following ingredients (THEY ARE REALLY BAD FOR YOUR HAIRS)

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate
  • DEA/Diethanolamine
  • Parabens
  • Fragrance

I cannot shout enough on SLS/SLES. Even though I have stopped using shampoos consisting SLS/SLES since a year now and have seen the difference it has made to my hair; I still want to avoid as much chemicals in my hair as possible. This world is full of chemicals even in food so the more natural the better !

So here are 2 homemade shampoo recipe’s that’ll be great for your hair:

1. Reetha, Shikakai, Amla and Hibiscus Mix:

This shampoo is great for thrice a week use. It even helps when your hair is oiled! Reetha is normally drying to hair so shikakai balances this. Hisbiscus is great for premature greying and Amla for hair fall. This one’s a power packed shampoo!

Things you will need: (This will make a batch enough to last a week : 4-5 washes for waist length hair)

  • 40-45 - Reethas
  • 20-25 - pieces of Shikakai
  • 3 tbsp - hibiscus powder
  • 3 tbsp - Amla Powder

Procedure:

1. In a pot of water (take a big vessle and fill it with water) add the above ingredients and leave it overnight

2. Next day they would have already become soft, so boil the water and let the mixture simmer on low flame for 1 hour.

3. Switch off the flame and let it remain till it cools down

4. Remove seeds of Reetha and squeeze out the remaining pulp nicely from the reetha and shikakai, before discarding

5. Strain properly and store this liquid in a bottle in a refrigerator for about a week or 10 days

Eco Tip: The remains of Reetha and shikakai that are left after straining can be used as a hair mask! (remember to remove the seeds of reetha and grind it to make a wonderful paste as a mask)

How To Use This Homemade Shampoo:

This liquid can be used as a shampoo. Remove it before sometime of washing your hair to let it come to room temperature. Remember you will see less foam and it will foam only when your hair is clean so you will need to use it 2-4 times depending on your hair type. This liquid will also clean hair if you have oiled your hair. Condition your hair as usual after washing.

Pro’s Of This Homemade Shampoo:

  • No chemicals at all
  • Cleanses and conditions your hair
  • In the long run, this shampoo helps prevent pre-mature greying of hair
  • Very light on your pockets
  • Prevents hair fall
  • Makes hair soft and shiny

Con’s Of This Homemade Shampoo:

  • Reetha can be drying to your hair, but nothing that a conditioner would not be able to resolve
  • This is a messy procedure and time consuming for some

My Tip: I know this is a little messy procedure but trust me it’ll be worth going that extra mile. You can spend some time on a Sunday and prepare the batch for the coming week!

2. Homemade Shampoo 2: Buildup Clearing

This one’s a simple a recipe and can be used once in two weeks to clear the build up from your hair. This shampoo makes your hair squeaky clean but it is advised to use it once in two weeks ONLY, Since the nature of baking soda is alkaline.

Things you’ll need: (Makes for 1 time wash)

  • Baking Soda
  • Warm water

Procedure:

  • Mix 1 part baking soda, in 3 parts of water
  • That’s it! Use the liquid as a shampoo and see your hair super clean!

How To Use The Build Up Clearing Shampoo:

Since baking soda is alkaline in nature it is advised to use this shampoo once in two weeks to clear your scalp of all the buildup. Once washed rinse your hair with vinegar (preferable apple cider vinegar) - this step is important to neutralize your hair; since baking soda is very alkaline (PH: 9.5) Later, condition as usual 🙂

These shampoos will save you not only your money but will give you healthy, gorgeous tresses. Go that EXTRA mile, IT’S WORTH IT!

Have a great week ahead guys………… Lot’s of Love and Light…
