There are certain books that you come across and it kind of stays with you forever. If you are an avid reader you know what I’m talking about right? Well I had MY CALLING cleared with THIS Book. The depth and such simple writing and learning, all I have to say is DO NOT miss this beautiful book by PRIYA KUMAR. Read on to know why am I raving about it! 😀
Let me tell your something first, before proceeding with the review, you are bound to get troubles and depressive phase in your life. Be it professional or personal life. But If you keep your head high up and face the world with your positive vibes, your world will change in no time. Such books are there to help you go through your life and I feel blessed I got an opportunity to share the goodness with you all 🙂
Synopsis:
The Calling by Priya Kumar is a spiritual adventure. It is an encounter with the truth, the wisdom and the force that is innate to us all. At the brink of a divorce and personal breakdown, Arjun took a trip into the heart of the Himalayas, on the insistence of a sadhu, who predicted that the journey up to Hemkund Sahib would align him to his purpose and change his life forever. At every turn the mountains holds secrets and tests that urge Arjun to evolve into the person he had denied to be – himself. Pretenses, falsities, confusions and untruths fall apart as Arjun is forced to confront the mess he had created in his life. What started off as an opportunity to escape reality, turned out to be an opportunity to escape from the dwindling spiral of self-created misery.

Sometimes in life comes a phase where you need to listen to your soul and NOT get bogged down by the materialistic world that is always busy, always telling us what is right and wrong! This story is about a person who is depressed and lost in life - ARJUN. Arjun’s personal and professional life is in a mess and this depression takes him on an unforgettable journey. But wait! His journey almost ended in death when he met with a fatal accident. But as destiny plays games he was alive and met a Sadhu who was so mesmerizing. The Sadhu with his profound knowledge and warmth guides him to Hemkund Sahib. As simple and as magical it sounds, Arjun followed his journey to Hemkund Sahib that revealed many answers along his path. His Journey is so so interesting that you will get lost in the book and will not be able to put it down.
The best part of the book is Chandu (Arjun’s porter to Hemkund Sahib) and A Sadhu who Arjun meets on another fatal accident whilst on his way with Chandu! The Sadhu puts the ever annoyed Arjun to test and the fun learning begins. The story reveals it self slowly as you move ahead and anyone and everyone will be able to relate themselves with Arjun at some point in time. There are many take away from this book; MANY! But what I really liked was a very simple fact we keep forgetting in our busy lives, it was:
‘Let the world change, but don’t let your state of positivity change. Let the world change, but don’t let your state of certainty change to doubt because you don’t like that change. Let the whole world change, but don’t let your happiness change in accordance with the apparent despair the world projects onto you.’
Isn’t this true? If we are happy and positive our world automatically will be happy! Its so important to know these small things in life and there is this one book that will keep you motivated to face your life with a smile 🙂
If you are still going to give this book a miss, then you are blocking your self and your soul from attaining your higher purpose. This book is on the lines of The Secret, something that you cannot read just once but keep reading time and again to invoke a sense of purpose in you. I’ve read this book once and I still look forward to read it again when I get lost in this big world!
This book is not heavy on it’s contents, in spite of such a soul searching subject. It is a light read filled with a lot of humor as well! Such simple language and so much insight this book definitely gave me MY CALLING 🙂 It’s time you pick this up and find your calling too, it feels beautiful to know you are on the right path <3
